This week’s uplifting story
Firefighters Built a Neighbor a Way Home
What happened
Los Angeles firefighters answered a call from a woman who uses a motorized wheelchair. Her ramp had been stolen, leaving her trapped inside her home for days.
Captain Jack Baham purchased lumber and hardware. Firefighter Adam Corcuera and Task Force 94 measured, cut, and assembled a replacement ramp, returned after dark, installed it, and tested it with a motorized wheelchair.
Why it matters
The crew stayed with the problem until their neighbor could safely come and go on her own.
Their kindness looked like lumber, tools, and several hours of ordinary work that restored another person’s independence.
Morning in the Holler angle
“Folks, these firefighters were called to help a woman who could not get past her own front steps. They bought lumber, built a ramp, installed it after dark, and tested it before leaving. Sometimes kindness is a tape measure, a saw, and good people willing to stay until their neighbor has a way home. What little bridge could we build for somebody today? I’m just asking questions. That’s all.”
