This week’s uplifting story
The Handrail That Began with Grandma
What happened
Michigan student Meera Ramaswami saw her grandmother fall while getting out of a family car and asked whether there could be a safer way.
Her answer became Cargility, a portable folding handrail for people who need support entering or leaving a vehicle. She carried the idea through prototypes, competitions, engineering work, a patent granted on December 9, 2025, and a 2026 public launch.
Why it matters
The invention began with love and attention: a granddaughter noticed a struggle and asked how she could help.
Curiosity opened the door, but years of patient work carried the idea through it. Meera now also encourages younger inventors.
Morning in the Holler angle
“Folks, sometimes invention begins in a laboratory. Other times, it begins in a family car when a granddaughter sees Grandma struggling and says there ought to be a better way. Pay attention to where somebody needs a steady hand. That may be exactly where God placed your next useful idea. I’m just asking questions. That’s all.”
